The Market Manager of the Durango Farmers Market (DFM) is the leader of the largest farmers market in Southwest Colorado. This person is tasked with operating the DFM as a safe, productive, and supportive market space for agriculturalists, other vendors, customers and the public. They take direction from a governing Board of Directors and active membership.
The ideal applicant will have strong listening and communications skills, the ability to multitask and stay organized, as well as some knowledge of food production in the region. The Market Manager needs to be self motivated and be able to complete a wide range of tasks with little direct supervision, including: internal organization of all market operations and vendor communications; external advertising and publicity of the market to the community; and networking/collaboration with other local food-oriented agencies. The position is one of two DFM staff positions. Good communication skills are a must, as the Market Manager interacts with customers, vendors, sponsors, and other stakeholders on a regular basis.
Writing, graphic design and marketing skills are also very important to this position, as is attention to detail, and a basic understanding of agriculture. Manager will need the ability to work with social media platforms, website builder software, web based newsletter communication, and must be able to lift, sit, walk, stand and perform duties in varied weather. Bachelor's degree or higher in an applicable field, or experience in food system/market management is preferred.
This is a part-time employee position with an annual salary between $20-25,000 to be distributed on a monthly basis. Final salary will be offered depending on qualifications and experience. Hours of work per week depends on the season.
